Nike: Winged Victory Goddess

Kris Kuksi’s Nike (2017), commissioned for the Nike corporate art collection and housed at the brand’s global headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, centers on a miniature rendering of the iconic Nike of Samothrace, embedding the ancient symbol of victory within a dense, contemporary assemblage. Measuring 42 x 95.5 x 18 inches, the work fuses classical sculpture with mechanical fragments, architectural flourishes, and modern detritus to form a baroque environment charged with tension and motion. The historic figure—long associated with triumph, momentum, and transcendence—serves as both anchor and catalyst within the chaos, reframing victory as an ongoing, hard-won process rather than a singular achievement. Monumental in scale yet obsessive in detail, Nike reflects the brand’s mythic origins while embodying the relentless pursuit, discipline, and transformation at the core of athletic and creative excellence.
