Serena Mitnik-Miller Wild
W I L D marked Serena Mitnik-Miller’s third solo exhibition with Joshua Liner Gallery, featuring a series of new watercolor works on paper. On view from November 16, 2017, the show highlighted Mitnik-Miller’s signature balance of fluid, organic abstraction and precise geometric structure. Beginning each work in pencil, she layered soft, natural palettes in freeform washes that evoked the rhythms of the natural world, suggesting waves, breezes, and landscapes without direct representation. The exhibition reflected a personal rebirth for the artist, inspired in part by the recent birth of her son, Wild.
Born in 1981 in Massachusetts and raised in Hawaii, Serena Mitnik-Miller earned her BA from the University of California in 2008. Deeply influenced by nature, her work draws from a lifelong connection to the outdoors, translating those impressions into pattern-based abstractions. Her exhibitions include solo shows at Curators Cube (Tokyo), Park Life Gallery (San Francisco), and SFMOMA Artists Gallery, as well as group shows internationally. She also completed a large-scale mural at Facebook’s San Francisco headquarters in 2014 and continues to live and work in California.
