Riusuke Fukahori Goldfish Salvation

Goldfish Salvation presents a body of new work by Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori, featuring his signature three-dimensional acrylic and resin paintings of goldfish, alongside works on canvas, wood, and his first video piece. Through meticulous observation and a layered painting process, Fukahori transforms goldfish into allegories of humanity, identity, and the passage of time, creating works that hover between realism and contemplation.

Riusuke Fukahori (b. 1973, Aichi, Japan) is a Yokohama-based artist renowned for his hyperrealistic three-dimensional resin paintings of goldfish. Fukahori’s painstaking process—layering resin and paint over months—renders lifelike forms that explore themes of identity, impermanence, and human experience. Selected solo exhibitions include Goldfish Salvation 2 (2014) at ICN Gallery, London; Goldfish and Water Yue (2014) at E & C Gallery, Fukui, Japan; and The Painted Breath (2013) at Joshua Liner Gallery, New York. Group exhibitions include Direct Address (2013) and Summer Group Exhibition (2012) at Joshua Liner Gallery, New York, and Mystery (2005) at Hamada City World Children’s Museum, Japan. His work is held in public collections including the Edogawa Art Museum, Tokyo, and The World Children’s Museum, Hamada City, Japan.
